Presenters Ellen Shopes and Larry Simkins
Description The scenery in the Sierra will leave you gasping from its world-renown beauty, as well as the altitude! Come experience the John Muir Trail with a pair of fascinating individuals who have seemingly hiked it all. Ellen Shopes and Larry Simkins will share their pictures and stories with the hope of inspiring as well as educating hopeful hikers about the rewards and challenges that the Sierras offer. Being prepared for the challenges and meeting them with some humor can help a hiker get through the tough times and enjoy the great moments.
MEET OUR PRESENTERS
Since first meeting while working in the Grand Canyon for the National Park Service, the ‘Adventures of Ellen and Larry’ have taken them over miles of trails. Sierra hikes have included the High Sierra Trail as well as the JMT (4 times). They have completed the 800-mile Arizona Trail 5 times; they recently published a photography book, Along the Arizona Trail, highlighting the spectacular diversity along that path. As older hikers, they tackled the Pacific Crest Trail, Colorado Trail, highpoints of many states, the rugged terrain of canyon country in Utah, as well as foreign trips in the Himalayas, South America, and Africa.
